You should edit the 5100.rom that's where you will see the vid/pid of the compatible card. Just edit one set and replace it with the vid/pid of the 8775

Hi ranns, thank you for this useful post. BTW, I may need some advice from you...

I am using Sierra MC8781 (VID/PID: 1199_6856). I am able to figure out F3607gw (VID/PID: 0BDB_1905) from MOD_5100.ROM and replace it with my card's. But once flash BIOS and install with MC8781 it is still report as incorrect card...

Should I replace the SUBSYS too? Or should I PM you with more information? Thank you for your help :D

I'm not sure but didn't mess with the subsys anymore when I did mine. However, it's the huawei vid/pid that I replaced.

My guess is since mc8781 has a built in GPS, it might have its own vid/pid too that you need to replace but I have no idea where to look for it.

Ranns,

I have never attempted to edit a bios before, so I am not for sure where to look for the VID/PID values, I am using WinHex, I searched on a few of the hex values that you posted but did not find them. Is there anyway I could talk you into emailing me the version of the bios you edited, I already found a place that will sell the same card you used. I just got my S10-3T last night, and would love to have 3G in it. It came with bios 24CN18WW, which one did you modify?

Thanks

you need to update your BIOS first to the latest (024CN20WW - available at Lenovo site) then using the same BIOS, open it with Phoenix editor. While editing goto the editor's temp folder and you will see several ROM files. Using winhex, edit the 5100.ROM

I did not find 0BDB_1905, but I did find DB0B_0519 starting at address 04825 is that the correct value to change?
Is this the correct vendor and product id for that card, VEN_1199&DEV_6813?
